Backyard games give a multitude of opportunities for families to have fun. Unfortunately the computer and video games have replaced many of the fun pastimes that families used to be involved in. Because of this, many people no longer remember that there are simple games that can be played in the backyard. Family gatherings like reunions and picnics are great places to play these games. The cornhole game is one of these games. The bean bag toss is another name for this game. Small bags filled with beans, corn, or sand are thrown at a board with a hole in it. Points are scored based on the bag falling into the hole. Players can also get points by landing a bag on the board. Getting to 21 first means that player wins the game.

Many people around the country and the world also like to play horseshoes. Tournaments are held in various areas of the country for horseshoe players. It is seen as more of a sport by those that actively play it. Some think horseshoes are only for kids and the elderly. Any age person can enjoy horseshoes. Most of these backyard games also come from humble beginnings. Washers is one of these games. It is suspected that this game was started out of boredom. A bet was made about putting a washer into an oil can. There was a good distance between the people and the can. This activity was bet on, but was also found to be fun. Skill was still needed. History was made with the start of this game. There are many devoted players of washers that have created their own associations.

Many people that spend time outdoors camping and enjoying other activities play Bolo Toss. Another name for this game is ladder golf. Throughout the years this game has been called by many other names. Some of this depends on the area of the country that the game is in. The game can be played either indoors or outdoors. Playing this game wont be a problem even if the weather turns bad. People can just move inside in bad weather. The object of the game is to take the bolo and toss it at a ladder constructed of PVC. The bolo is a piece of rope with golf balls attached to either end. Points are gained by wrapping the bolo around a rung of the ladder.

Bocce Ball is a popular backyard game. This game is fun and easy to play. Young and old alike can play this game. Even in ancient times, bocce ball was popular. Throughout time, changes have been made to it. Bocce ball is a lot like bowling. Bocce ball cant be easily played in a very small area. Regulations call for an area 10 feet by 76 feet. To play it only for fun a smaller space could be used. Players throw balls larger than the original ball on the course.
